 The calibration and adjustment of process instruments are critical practices in maintaining the accuracy, reliability, and efficiency of measurement systems within industrial operations. Calibration involves comparing an instrument's measurements against a known standard to ensure its measurements are precise, accurate and repeatable.

A valve positioner is a device used in industrial process to ensure that a valve being used to control a process variable accurately achieves the desired position based on a control signal being sent to it. Proper setup of a valve positioner is essential to achieve optimal process control, as incorrect settings can lead to inefficiencies such as oscillations, slow response times, or improper valve positioning, potentially resulting in compromised process performance, equipment damage and reduced valve life-of-service.

Actuators are mechanical devices used with a pneumatic solenoid or valve positioner to convert the control signal sent from the process controller into physical motion, enabling the operation of valves, dampers, and other devices that regulate the flow of process fluids. Actuators are vulnerable to failure and therefore require servicing to ensure their reliability, efficiency, and longevity.

Valve Bench sets refer to the initial adjustments and calibration of a control valve, performed in a controlled environment before the valve is installed into a live system. This process involves setting up the valve, actuator, and positioner to ensure they work together seamlessly, complying with specified performance criteria such as stroke range, pressure levels, and response times. Bench setting is crucial as it provides an opportunity to fine-tune valve performance and verify functionality under simulated operating conditions, ensuring that the valve will respond accurately and reliably once integrated into the actual process.
